August 8th, Club Chatter
August 8th, B I G group, (40-50), eager dancers gathered at 6pm for Laura Taylor's expert teaching of "Hustle". Laura with her unique approach and expert teaching skills led this group through an hour of basic Hustle instruction. She taught and demonstrated the foot patterns and rhythm count, back rock, to "&1 2-3,"&1 2-3, so easy and clear. And of course many other easy challenges in this popular aerobic dance.
History: just a bit about Hustle.....Based on older dances such as Mambo, the Hustle originated in Hispanic communities in New York City & Florida in the 1970's.This was originally a line dance with a Salsa-like foot rhythm, that after some fusion with swing & eventual shortening of the count to "& 1 2 3, became the present "New York" Hustle.
Robert Phaigh, (charming Laura's husband), was there to be of assistance with all the demos, and helping all the students who needed a little extra coaching.
Laura, "right off the bat", had this group in her command, very organized, rotating partners frequently. Thanks, Laura, remember you are welcomed back and will remain on our list of "favorite dance instructors".
A wonderful selection of DJ, Ballroom Dance music, for everyone's dancing pleasure, BUT, I can't remember who DJ'd.....Think it was Robert Phaigh, or maybe Wu...Anyway THANKS! I placed a call to Valerie, and her memory was no better than mine, neither does she know what time it is, but you can count on her to be an hour early!!!!! We all love you Val.....Thanks for being so prompt.....You can be 2 hours early when we run our clocks back, will all of you help me keep a loving eye on this gal.
